"When I looked above the canyon wall,
Some strong eyes did I see.
I think its somebody comin' around
To save my ass, baby.
I think, I think he's comin' around
To save you and me"
Theodore Anthony "Ted" Nugent, born December 13, 1948, is an American musician from Detroit,
Michigan. He gained fame as the lead guitarist of The Amboy Dukes before embarking on a successful
solo career. He is noted for his conservative political views and his defense of hunting and gun owner-
ship rights. His highly charged rock and roll song, The Great White Buffalo, is what many of us noticed.
With unmatched guitar work, the song tells a story of destruction of the buffalo and the return of The
Great White Buffalo to make a final stand against evil. With the Montrose Pow wow coming up, the song
also reminds us of the story of the return of White Buffalo Calf Woman, a sacred woman of supernatu-
ral origin, central to the Plains indians as the primary cultural prophet. Oral traditions relate that she
brought the "Seven Sacred Rituals" to the Teton Sioux. Here is her story in brief:

One summer a long time ago, the seven sacred council fires of the Lakota Sioux came together and
camped. The people were starving for there was no game.
Two young men went out to hunt. Along the way, they met a beautiful young woman dressed in white

sumed by a cloud and turned into a pile of bones.

The woman spoke to the second young man and said, "Return to your people and tell them I am com-
ing." This holy woman brought a wrapped bundle to the people which held a sacred pipe and taught

them how to use it to pray. "With this holy pipe, you will walk like a living prayer," she said. The holy
woman taught the Sioux about the value of the buffalo, the women and the children and sacred rituals.
Before she left, she promised

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it's significant spiritual
symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk is the messenger. It is
also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is very protective of the young in its
nest. It teaches us about providing for family and self. Hawk teaches us to be observant and to
pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don't use, a blessing for
which we haven't expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk has keen eyesight, it
