Also inside this edition, we highlight
many of the warmer indoor activities
that are ongoing activities, like the

programs at local libraries, many of
which are free. Also featured are ar-

and crowdsourcing efforts that have
catalogued over 300,000 galaxies in
a short period of time. Very cool and
exciting stuff. We also want to wish
you a very happy and safe Halloween

Soak Up The Sun...
¡°Every time I turn around
I¡¯m looking up, you¡¯re looking down
Maybe something¡¯s wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do...¡±
¡®Soak Up the Sun¡¯ is the title of a song recorded by American artist Sheryl Crow. It was released in
March 2002 as the lead single from her 2002 album, ¡®C¡¯mon C¡¯mon¡¯. The song, which features backing
vocals by Liz Phair, peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart and hit number 5 on the
Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and No. 17 on the Hot 100 chart. It is a casual song that is about
enjoying the simple things in life. In the song, Sheryl talks about a friend who has a fancy ride, an RV, in
which he holds political meetings and, apparently a pessimistic, downward looking attitude. In com-
parison, she sings out her own positive outlook, saying, ¡°I don¡¯t have digital, I don¡¯t have diddly squat,¡±
BUT ¡°I¡¯m gonna soak up the sun, I¡¯m gonna tell everyone to lighten up.¡± She¡¯s not looking to blame
anyone for her problems and every time she feels lame, she¡¯s looking up. A stark contrast to her friend¡¯s
outlook. ¡°Don¡¯t have no master suite,¡± she continues, ¡°but I¡¯m still the king of me. You have a fancy ride,
but baby I¡¯m the one who has the key.¡± And what is the key to looking up instead of looking down, be-
ing happy instead of being unhappy? The key is in the song, ¡°It¡¯s not having what you want, It¡¯s want-
ing what you¡¯ve got.¡± That¡¯s right. The key to happiness is appreciating and wanting what you already
have. A person who is satisfied and grateful doesn¡¯t seek to control others or the world, that person
wants to focus on and soak up all the joy from life. They don¡¯t drown in worry, fear or envy. They ¡®soak

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it¡¯s significant spiritual
symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk is the messenger. It is
also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is very protective of the young in its
nest. It teaches us about providing for family and self. Hawk teaches us to be observant and to
pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don¡¯t use, a blessing for
which we haven¡¯t expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk has keen eyesight, it
is about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us. Hawk is also about new
beginnings and always moving forward along the correct path.
