breakthrough on page 1.
Very exciting news. We
also focus on one of Colo-
rado¡¯s best gifts, apples.
Did you know that Colo-
rado produces over 17
million pounds of apples
each year? One apple
tree at the Sunshine Ex-
press office feeds us and
neighbors and deer and
horses alike every fall,
it¡¯s a community feed-
ing machine. Apples are
great. We also, of course,
bring you a fantastic
selection of events and
concerts and happen-
ings that are occurring in
your area and all over the
western slope of Colo-
rado this month. There
is much to choose from

He Ain¡¯t Heavy
If I¡¯m laden at all
I¡¯m laden with sadness
That everyone¡¯s heart
Isn¡¯t filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
(A message worth repeating, originally published March, 2012) ¡®He Ain¡¯t Heavy¡¯ is a popular music
ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969, the song
became a worldwide hit for The Hollies later that year and again for Neil Diamond in 1970.
In this beautiful and powerful song, true brotherhood is defined succinctly. Your brother(or sister)
is one who is ¡°no burden¡± to bear for you; ¡°He/she ain¡¯t heavy.¡± Why isn¡¯t he heavy? Because you
¡°know he would not encumber¡± you. Here is the definition of ¡®encumber¡¯:
encumber/en¡¯k?mb?r/ Verb:
1.Restrict or burden (someone or something) in such a way that free action or movement is difficult.
2.Saddle (a person or estate) with a debt or mortgage. Synonyms: impede, hinder, burden, obstruct,
cumber, hamper.
To encumber others does not come from a heart ¡°filled with the gladness of love for one another¡±. It
is not a verb of freedom. It is not something a brother does to his brother.
So, while we¡¯re on this long, long road, from which there is no return, that leads us to who knows
where, who knows when, ¡°Why not share?¡± Why not free each other from all encumbrances and light-
en the load, so that we can be strong enough to carry each other? Let¡¯s not encumber our brothers
and sisters, and the load won¡¯t weigh us down at all. The path to our long term happiness is really as
simple and as beautiful as this song. Don¡¯t be heavy. Be my brother.
Happy October! Welcome to Fall and to all of the beauty and joyful abundance that it brings to you. It
is the time of the year for harvesting and sharing and rejoicing and giving thanks. A wondrous time

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it¡¯s significant
spiritual symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk
is the messenger. It is also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is
very protective of the young in its nest. It teaches us about providing for family
and self. Hawk teaches us to be observant and to pay attention to what we may
overlook. This could mean a talent we don¡¯t use, a blessing for which we haven¡¯t
expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk has keen eyesight, it is
about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us. Hawk is also
about new beginnings and always moving forward along the correct path.
