Uplifting The Western Slope
Pg 2 - The Sunshine Express
Sowing the Seeds of Love
High time we made a stand and shook up the view of the common man.
And the love train rides from coast to coast, every minute of every hour.
I Love a Sunflower and I believe in love power, love power, Love Power!
¡°Sowing the Seeds of Love¡± is a melodic and addictive song by the British group Tears for Fears. It was released
as the first single from their 1989 album The Seeds of Love, and was a worldwide hit, reaching the top five in
the UK, Canada (where it was #1), Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and the US where it peaked at number two on
the Billboard Hot 100, while topping the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Written in June 1987, during the week of the
UK general election, it is considered to be the most overtly political song that Tears For Fears had ever recorded.
There is no doubt that the song directly calls out candidate Thatcher when it says, ¡°politician granny with your
high ideals, have you no idea how the majority feels?¡± But it¡¯s not a protest song, oh no. It is a song that has the
answer, and tries repetitively to make the point that, ¡°without love and a promised land, we¡¯re fools to the rules
of a government plan.¡± Indeed, our power and progress only comes from loving each other. It comes from sowing
seeds of love. And this song calls out each and every one of us, as well, saying, ¡°Open hearts, feel about it. Open
minds, think about it. Everyone, read about it. Everyone, scream about it. Everyone. High time we made a stand
and shook up the views of the common man.¡± If we do, according to the song, we can bring, ¡°an end to need and
the politics of greed, with Love.¡± As the song says, ¡°anything is possible, when you¡¯re sowing the seeds of love.¡±
Amen to that.

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it¡¯s significant spiritual
symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk is the messenger.
It is also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is very protective of the young
in its nest. It teaches us about providing for family and self. Hawk teaches us to be obser-
vant and to pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don¡¯t use,
a blessing for which we haven¡¯t expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk
has keen eyesight, it is about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us.
Hawk is also about new beginnings and always moving forward along the correct path.
