Get Rhythm
¡°Get rhythm, when you get the blues
Come on, get rhythm, when you get the blues
A jumpy rhythm makes you feel so fine
It¡¯ll shake all the trouble from your worried mind
Get rhythm, when you get the blues...¡±
¡®Get Rhythm¡¯ is a 1956 rockabilly song, written and recorded by the legendary Johnny
Cash.
The song is about optimism, centering on a shoeshine boy, who spends part of his pay at a
jukebox to hear music, which helps him cope with the tedious nature of his job.
He¡¯s got the dirtiest job in town, bendin¡¯ low at the people¡¯s feet, on the windy corner of
the dirty street.
When asked how he keeps from getttin¡¯ the blues, he grins and replies, ¡°Get rythm.¡± He
puts on his taps and dances until he feels great.
As he explains this to Johnny, he gets rhythm while shining Johnny¡¯s shoes and is so
pumped and into it that Johnny himself gets rhythm too!
Now that¡¯s what we call good medicine. It¡¯s cheap, it works, it makes you feel so good, and
best of all, the good vibrations transfer to everyone else you contact.
So go on, get rhythm. And be happy! - KD

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it¡¯s significant spiritual
symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk is the messenger.
It is also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is very protective of the young
in its nest. It teaches us about providing for family and self. Hawk teaches us to be obser-
vant and to pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don¡¯t use,
a blessing for which we haven¡¯t expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk
has keen eyesight, it is about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us.
Hawk is also about new beginnings and always moving forward along the correct path.
