Born To Be Wild...
“Get your motor runnin’,
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way...”
'Born to Be Wild' is a rock song
written by Mars Bonfire and made famous by the Canadian-American rock band
Steppenwolf. It is often used in popular culture to denote a biker
appearance or attitude. However, ‘Born to Be Wild’ was written by Mars
Bonfire as a slow ballad. Imagine that. Either way you play it, it is a song
that immediately takes hold of your spirit and seems to give it energy. It
gets the adrenaline pumping and fires up visions of roaring down the open
road, alive and wild and free. It is the epitome of the human spirit,
wanting, needing to be free, to be outdoors, on the highway of life, running
wild. We often hear the term ‘wild’ in a negative light. Too bad, because we
all were ‘born to be wild’. Without the wild ideas and experiments that
emerge from wild minds not burdened with restriction, there would have been
absolutely zero progress. Every effort in history to ‘civilize’ the ‘wild’(usually
meaning creative) humans, has backfired into ‘un-civil’ unrest and tyranny.
Force humans out of the wild and we spend billions to get back to it. We are
an essential part of the wild, it feeds us and clothes us and nurtures our
souls. And despite what’s been taught to us for the last 100+ years, the
wilderness needs us too. We give it our admirations and love energy as well
as it’s very breath(Co2). Humans do not thrive unless they are wild, and
free.

The silverhawk feather that graces our front page was chosen for it's significant spiritual symbolism. Hawks are symbols of spirit, wisdom and power. The hawk is the messenger. It is also about visionary power and guardianship, the hawk is very protective of the young in its nest. It teaches us about providing for family and self. Hawk teaches us to be observant and to pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don't use, a blessing for which we haven't expressed gratitude, or a message from Spirit. The hawk has keen eyesight, it is about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us. Hawk is also about new beginnings and always moving forward along the correct path.
